Highlights
Halévy’s La Juive follows the best traditions of French opera and the composer created it based on the libretto by the excellent French playwright Eugène Scribe, who was the author of the text templates for many other great works by world-famous authors Meyerbeer, Auber, Bellini, Rossini and Verdi.

La Jiuive has been prepared by the SND Opera in collaboration with Antwerp and Gente Flemish National Opera and the Mannheim National Theatre.

Running time: 3 hrs 15 mins with one interval
Don Giovanni is not only a story about a punished sinner, as it is also not a simple music comedy, too. It is a unique piece of drama work, in which seemingly typical funny situations, so uncomplicated and slight in other operas, here they are rough and they cause an overall tension. Giovanni is punished at the end, although the question who was it that sentenced and punished him has no answer. Was is the God, or as Jozef Bednárik, the director of the production suggests, was it Giovanni’s empty and dry heart?

Running time: 3 hrs 15 mins with one interval
A significant amount of teaching time with Janis Kelly who will help bring out the best of your voice. The rehearsal space is within a historic building owned by the Slovak National Theatre.
Is singing your secret passion? Or are you just inquisitive to see if there is more voice there? Or have you’ve never dared try? Then we offer a safe place  for you to open up. Everyone has their own, unique, sound and Janis will guide and entice you at your own level to take steps towards a more confident approach. You will learn some technical elements, both vocal and physical, which will offer opportunities for you to develop as a singer.

However, mainly its about your journey and the challenges you are willing to face and conquer. For some, delving into the unknown and facing fears will be the challenge. However, it is vital and possible that by doing either we are able to learn from each other. The short concert at the end is about your own individual journey.

You should offer a choice of three songs or arias, one of which will be chosen in advance by Janis as your piece to be worked on during the masterclasses. This can be from classical music, opera repertoire or classic musical theatre in Italian, English, French or German. Knowing your piece by heart will mean you can really learn how to perform it and take it to another level. If you come with a friend, you may also choose a duet.

Early classes will deal with aspects of posture, articulation, vowels and laryngeal position along with exercises for warming up and stamina. Approaching technical excellence will apply to all classes.  This will lead on to delving into text and context and conjuring up an atmosphere through imagination, courageousness, openness, honesty and good humour. Yes, it can be great fun too!

There will have time to discuss the Opera performance we will attend. Then we will go through the style of singing particular to the composer and the relative time period. We will discuss the different voice categories and characters and why we may have been drawn to a particular singer. How does the production affect us?

Janis will also share her professional experiences with you and give you an insight into a classical singer’s life, with opportunities to ask questions. This experience should be like opening the door to your singing soul, to yourself, to the unexpected.
After arriving in Vienna, we take a luxury coach to Marrol's Boutique Hotel in Bratislava. We lunch together before an afternoon of singing tuition with Janis. Dinner together is early to allow for time to get to the Slovak National Theatre for a performance of Halévy’s La Juive.
The morning is spent under the tuition of Janis Kelly. There is then some free time available for lunch and to explore Bratislava Old Town. Further singing practice precedes an early dinner, prior to this evening's opera performance; Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Once again, the morning is spent under the tutelage of Janis Kelly. We lunch as a group before further practice in the afternoon. Dinner is together at a fine local restaurant.
After breakfast, and hotel check-out, the morning is devoted to further singing practice with Janis. We lunch together, before your concert performance. There is then a little time to tour Bratislava before the coach departure to Vienna airport.
