For those of you interested in great art, Tim Wright offers a range of masterclasses. This is an opportunity to experience the world of the artist’s studio and to investigate the methods and materials of painting. He will guide you through the basics of technique and provide the opportunity to investigate your own potential, whether you are new to painting or someone eager to develop their existing practice. These course are focussed around a particular artist. At present, you can choose from Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Turner, Degas, Manet and Sargent.

The aim is to give the client a taste of the atmosphere and creative context of the artist’s workplace and a ‘hands-on’ experience of their practice, explaining methods, materials and historical context. The physicality of this process will give a more direct connection to the artist. The best part of the day is spent painting, with breaks for discussion and refreshment. A full range of the necessary tools and materials will be provided, as well as the appropriate life-models and props. The week will be structured so that, in addition to a series of studies and exercises, the client has a painting to take home.

In studying these artists we do not seek to create a pastiche or copy, but to try and convey something of their creative processes and practical concerns. Inspired by their example, we aim to help the client to make a painting which is their own, not a facsimile. With brush or chalk in hand, paint and medium on the palette and paper or canvas to apply it to, we can open up the artist’s world and reach a better understanding of the paintings which we are so intrigued and fascinated by.

The masterclasses will be located in spaces which are evocative of, and pertinent to, a particular artist; for example, Caravaggio and Tiepolo will be located in atmospheric studios in Italy. The aim is to create an environment which reflects something of the age and spirit of the chosen painter; to look at and paint a dramatically-lit model in a sixteenth-century palazzo makes an effective and exciting connection to Caravaggio’s world.

This will be an experience which is a small, but intense, taste of an artist’s world. It should give a broader understanding of painting in general and an insight into the work of the chosen artist in particular.
After our arrival at Bologna airport, we transfer to the 4-star Hotel Berchielli overlooking the Arno River in Florence. After lunch, Tim takes us on a tour of the Uffizi's Caravaggio room and the Hall of the 18th-century to view the Tiepolos.  The rest of the afternoon is spent in the Uffizi before we dine together at a local restaurant.
After breakfast, we walk to the studio space, near the Bargello, to prepare and start painting. After lunch, there is time to continue painting and for personal exploration of Florence.
The day is spent in the studio under the tutelage of Tim Wright.
The morning is spent in the Pitti Palace looking at their Caravaggio collection with Tim. Time is allowed to peruse the gallery before lunch. The afternoon is spent in the studio under the tutelage of Tim Wright. ?Dinner is together

Hotel Berchielli
Overlooking the Arno River, just steps from the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo della Signoria, the 4-star Hotel Berchielli has been offering luxury hospitality in Florence since 1890. Hotel Berchielli has maintained all the charm of a historic hotel, yet offers modern amenities.

A marble plaque on the façade recalls the frequent stays of Romain Rolland, a distinguished literary critic and Nobel Prize for Literature winner in 1915 who chose the Hotel Berchielli as his Florentine residence, as did the great Pablo Picasso several decades later when he took up residence in these rooms in the fall of 1949. The Classic guest rooms of Hotel Berchielli are the perfect solution for those looking for stylish accommodations in a hotel in the heart of old Florence.
